MY STORY

1. WHERE I STARTED

"I started playing hockey in Aspen, Colorado at 5 years old. I played for Aspen junior hockey and Mountain Select until high school. At 14, I moved to Denver and billeted with 3 different families in the 2 years I played for Colorado Thunderbirds AAA team. My mom grew up in MN and we decided to make the move to St Paul. I play for Hill Murray high school and the Oklahoma Warriors in the NAPHL fall league."

2. CHALLENGES I'VE FACED

"The biggest challenge I've faced in my hockey career was leaving my small mountain town in Aspen to pursue AAA hockey in Denver, which meant leaving my family and friends behind to live with my new teammate's family. Over two years, I lived with three different families and attended two different high schools - doing freshman year online - which was a huge adjustment with plenty of ups and downs. Through all these changes, I learned a lot about myself and had to become really independent to not just survive, but actually thrive in new environments. When I moved to Minnesota before junior year for another new school, team, and group of friends, I was better prepared for the transition and grateful to finally have some family nearby again."

3. WHAT DRIVES ME

"What drives me is the idea to get better every single day and to make my family proud. Hockey has taught me that there's always another level to reach, whether it's perfecting my skating, working on my hands, or becoming a better leader. The challenges I've faced moving around and adapting to new teams have only made me hungrier to prove that I can succeed anywhere."

4. WHERE I'M HEADED

"My short term goals are to excel with Hill Murray varsity this season, and then play junior hockey with the USHL, WHL or NAHL for 2-3 years. Long term goal is to play D1 college hockey. My dream is to play in the NHL."

5. GOOD TO KNOW

"My resilience and adaptability have proved to strengthen my commitment to hockey. I believe I am a great teammate and am highly coachable. My mental toughness and dedication will help me continue to develop at the next level, and I'm always willing to put in the extra work needed to reach my full potential. What sets me apart is my combination of physical tools and hockey IQ, along with the maturity I've gained from navigating so many changes at a young age. I understand what it takes to succeed in new environments and with new systems, which I believe makes me someone coaches can count on both on and off the ice."

TESTIMONIALS

"Slater possesses a rare combination of physical tools and mental maturity that sets him apart. At 6'4" and 190 pounds, he has the frame that every program is looking for, but what really impresses me is the character and resilience he's developed through his journey. He understands what it takes to succeed and can handle adversity better than most players his age. Slater represents exactly the type of defenseman who will thrive at the junior and collegiate levels."
